Silk Road
Silk Road – Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt – Red Sea
The Silk Road at the Grand Rotana Resort a few kilometres north of Naama is one of the most sophisticated restaurants in Sharm el Sheikh.
It is a little off the beaten track but well worth the taxi journey. The place is a great culinary experience and the setting has 1930s modernist feel to it. Almost everyone I know who has been raves about the place.
Three separate open kitchens serve Asian cuisine from Thailand, India and China – and a few others
To start, the Thai shrimp and beef salads are full of pungent fresh herbs and vegetables – many of which I have never managed to obtain in Sharm – The soups likewise. If you like seafood then try the black-striped tiger prawns with palm hearts and fennel or the fantastic sea bass.
The Indian and Thai meat curries are also great and for those of you who want to stick your neck out there is the pan-seared ostrich with apple and cranberry relish.
On the other hand if you are a little less adventurous you can also get a great steak.
